I’ve noticed issues with Microsoft Teams during some time and would like to share my solution to this.
I actually created a Microsoft-case about this but the support from Microsoft didn’t seem to have a better solution themselves, and I believe that Microsoft should solve the problem that the Machince-Wide installer won’t update itself. Anyway, here is how I solved it! 🙂
To start with, I would like to describe that I send out the Microsoft Teams-installation with the built-in application in Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune).
This will install the Microsoft Teams Machine-Wide installer, but what does that really do?
The Machine-Wide installer is a .MSI-file that will put a Teams.exe-file in the following folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Teams Installer
Once a user logon to the computer it will pull the Teams.exe-file and install Teams in the user profile.
Going from here, Teams will only be updated in the user profile, and not the one located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Teams Installer.
But why is that bad? Well, after a year that .exe-file will be old and out to date. In my case this create some issues that Teams won’t start for new users that logon to the same computer.
To solve this I created my own package with an updated Microsoft Teams Machine-Wide installer, and will manually check for new versions each month.
- I have another article that you can read to get started on how to package an applications to Microsoft Endpoint Manager here: Deploy applications with Microsoft Endpoint Manager
Once I did this, I noticed another issue. I couldn’t find a good site to download the Machine-Wide installer or get a good view of what the latest stable Teams-version is.
To solve this I checked for new versions inside my Microsoft Teams on my computer. Once that was updated I verified what version I was running. I also came across a download link that I adjusted the URL to what version I needed from Microsoft.

I would gladly hear how you would solve this, or if this article helped you in any way.
